are two levels of scholarships available.
Please read the following information
carefully to determine your eligibility
for each level. If you meet the
criteria, continue with the application
process. |
Department
of California Scholarships:
Applicant's parent must have served
or be serving in the United States Armed
Forces during any of the following eligible
periods. Applicants for any Department
of California Scholarships must be a resident
of the State of California and planning
on attending a California college or university
in the Fall 2007. (Exception: Lucille
Ganey Scholarship)
National Scholarships:
Applicant's parent must have served
or be serving in the United States Armed
Forces during any of the following eligible
periods.
Veterans:
Re-entry scholarships are available to those
who are serving or have served in the United
States Armed Forces.

The Process
|
|
1. |
Student obtains and completes application. (Note:
Online applications are two pages in length.) |
|
2. |
Student locates local or closest American Legion
Auxiliary Unit and submits application. |
|
3. |
Unit Committee selects one applicant for each
type of scholarship and forwards applications
to the District Chairman. (Note: Only one applicant
from any one school will be selected in each category
at the Unit level. Applicant is eligible
to win one scholarship only. Other limitations
may apply.) |

4. |
District Committee selects one applicant for each
type of scholarship and forwards applications
to the Department Chairman. |
|
5. |
Department Committee selects one winning applicant
per scholarship offered and announces the winners
during the June Convention. Winners
are notified by the committee. |

6a. |
In the case of National Scholarships, Department
selects one applicant for each type of scholarship
and forwards to the Division. |
|
6b. |
Division Committee selects one applicant for each
type of scholarship and forwards to the National
Chairman. |

6c. |
National Committee announces the winners during
the National Convention in August 2008.
Winners are notified by the committee. |

or graduate of an accredited high school
who has not been able to begin college due to
circumstances of illness or finance; must need
financial assistance to continue educational
pursuits; must attend a California college or

to Girl Scouts Only; applicant must have received
Girl Scout Gold Award; must be active member
of religious institution having received appropriate
religious emblem, Cadette or Senior Scout level;
must demonstrate practical citizenship in religious
institution, school, Girl Souting, and community;
must submit four letters of recommendation -
religious institution, school, community, and
scouting
