DONATIONS TO THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY
The American Legion Auxiliary is a non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible under the Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(19) as a Veterans Organization comprised of past or present members of the United States Armed Forces

All of the following programs are self-supporting through donations and amount of monetary awards and scholarships are based upon donations received.

Americanism - Annually the Department sponsors an Americanism Essay Contest and awards $6,200 in educational grants and cash awards to winning participants on all grade levels and children with exceptional learning needs. Amounts awarded are based upon donations received.
Children & Youth - Funds are budgeted annually to provide Temporary Financial Assistance (TFA) to Veterans with children experiencing a temporary financial hardship.

Girls State - Annually since 1937, one Junior from 500-550 different high schools in California attend Girls State where they set up a mock form of government learning first-hand how their City, County and State governments work.

Education - The number of scholarships offered annually is dependent upon donations received. Scholarships are awarded to Veterans children to further their education.

Poppy Seals - Poppy Seals are sold by the Department Office for $10.00 per thousand. Profits received are used for educational grants.

Past Presidents Parley- Annually a $2,000 scholarship is awarded to a veteran or a veteran's wife or husband, widow or widower, or child of a veteran pursuing a nursing career.

Gift Shop/Patient Remembrance - Christmas Gift Shops and Patient Remembrance is provided for only mental, pulmonary, nursing home, orthopedic, and other long term patients in VA Medical Centers.

Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation (VA&R) - This is the largest program sponsored by the Auxiliary and donations to this fund support a variety of worthy causes including Gift Shop/Patient Remembrance and a Temporary Financial Assistance (TFA) program for veterans and their families.

DONATIONS TO DEPARTMENT

RESTRICTED FUND DONATIONS:
Restricted Fund Donation Form must be filled out designating the amount that is to be credited for each program and mailed with your check. Additional forms are required and must be filled out as well on some donations. Make one check out for donations for Americanism, California Disaster, Department President's Special Project, Junior Activities, Loving Tribute and President's Club. Make a separate check for Girls State.

WELFARE FUND DONATIONS:
Welfare Fund Donation Transmittal must be filled out designating the amount that is to be credited for each program and mailed with your check. Make one check out for donations for the Children & Youth, Education, Past Presidents Parley, Patient Remembrance/Gift Shop and Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation. Make separate check out for donations to the Poppy Program.

DONATIONS TO NATIONAL
Send all donations on one check to the Department Office made payable to ALA, Department of California, but make sure you fill out the National Contributions Form indicating the amount you are donating to each program: Auxiliary Emergency Fund (AEF), Spirit of Youth (SOY), Veterans Creative Arts Festival and Children of Warriors National President's Scholarship.
