Department President Linda Fercho
|
Linda's eligibility is through her father Chief Petty Officer John Hineline, who was a Pearl Harbor survivor. A member of Camarillo Unit 741 for 15 years, her membership began as Junior member of Oxnard Unit 48. She is a member and Past Chapeau of Ventura Salon 277, Camarillo Arts Council, Camarillo Moose Lodge Chapter 1957 and the Camarillo United Methodist Church. Linda is a native Californian, born at the Port Hueneme Naval Base. At the age of four she and her family moved to Camarillo.
Linda retired in 2002 after 30 years from the Camarillo Pleasant Valley Elementary School District as the Employee Benefit Specialist and is currently employed as a part-time Financial Assistant and Practice Manager for Householder Group estate & retirement specialists..
Linda has held numerous chairmanships and offices at the Unit and District level. She served as
District President 2002-2003. Linda's first Department Chairmanship was Membership in
2003-2004, when the Department of California was a goal Department for the first time in 14 years. Her favorite story and membership tool is that at age 48 she found herself divorced with a lot of time on her hands. She remembered how rewarding it was to volunteer as a Junior Auxiliary member at Oxnard Unit 48, she paid her $20.00 dues, joined the Camarillo Unit 741 and got a husband and four children.
Other Department level positions include Vice-President and Junior Conference Director. Chairman of: Poppies.. Children & Youth, Americanism, Education, Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation.. and Leadership. ..he has received National awards for her Unit Junior Activities and..Children & Youth programs as well as receiving National awards for the Department Poppies, Children &Youth, Americanism, Education and Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation programs.
Linda is an ALA Certified leadership instructor.
Linda's husband of 13 years is Past Department Commander Dennis Fercho. They have five children; Tracy, Denny, Steve, Debi and Jenni and six grandchildren; Scott, Jac1ynn, Carson, Wyatt, Broxton, and Raylan; a son-in-law; Robert and a daughter-in-law; Natalie. Their entire family including Dennis's mother, sister and Linda's sisters and brother are all Legion, Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion members, a true Legion Family.
Linda believes in the strength of working together as a Legion family and in Service not Self. Linda was born on the 4th of July and she is truly a Yankee Doodle Dandy and her favorite colors, you guessed it, Red, White and Blue. Her favorite music is western and she loves to dance.
